From September 24th to 26th, the International ISBN registration authority (ISBN RA) and the international ISMN registration authority (ISMN RA) held the 2018 annual general meeting (AGM) in Malta, Europe.

The International ISBN registration authority and the international ISMN registration authority organized the general meeting annually. In recent years, both organizations have held the meetings in the same week at the same place, and invited representatives from all the ISBN and ISMN registration agencies of different countries and regions.

This year's ISBN AGM was held from September 24th to 25th. A total of 72 delegates participated in the meetings, representing 49 different ISBN registration agencies and related organizations. The AGM discussed several important issues related to the ISBN and publishing industry, including the latest revised ISBN standards and the status of publication in Malta. This time the ISBN AGM also added a seminar section to discuss the new publishing business model and regional response measures. Moreover, the National Library of Malta, as the co-organizer of the ISBN AGM, has organized a visit to the Malta National Library, inviting delegates to experience the restoration of ancient books.

This is the very first time that ISLI RA has been invited to participate ISBN AGM. Ms. Guo Li, the COO of ISLI RA, introduced the ISLI international standard and demonstrated the application of ISLI on the books identified by ISBN. Her speech generated enthusiastic response among the participants, especially when she introduced the scenario of ISLI’s interoperability with other ISO identifiers and the cooperation practice with China ISBN registration agency, the content received attention and applause from the audience. The ISBN registration agencies from various regions expressed their desire to learn more about ISLI in the following communications, and having better exchanges and dialogues with industry peers, thereby to promote their own business.

The ISMN AGM was held on 26th September and the ISLI RA representatives were invited to audit.

ISLI RA is very grateful to Ms. Stella, the Executive Director of ISBN International Registration Authority for her invitation and referral. This AGM has provided a platform for the communication and exchanges between the registration authority of ISLI with ISBN RA and ISMN RA. Also, it provided an opportunity for the subsequent interconnection of ISLI with ISBN and ISMN, and contributed to the promotion and application of ISLI in the international arena.
